Fran Kirmser’s career evolved first, as an artist, with a creative eye and vision having started as a dancer and choreographer. After a career ending injury brought her to the other side of the stage, she became a leader in consulting for the arts and an award winning producer of 47 shows in venues from 60 to 2500 seats…


Over the last 15 years, consulting for the arts, Kirmser raised millions of dollars for non profits through individual and institutional funding and corporate sponsorships. Through Fran Kirmser Productions, she helped hundreds of performing artists and projects to stage including Shen Wei Dance Arts at Lincoln Center Festival, Doug Varone and Dancers, Dance Brazil and Pascal Rioult Dance Theater at the Joyce Theater, Donna Uchizono at Dance Theater Workshop, Tiffany Mills Company at Baryshnikov Arts Center, Lucinda Childs at Brooklyn Academy of Music and Ellis Wood Dance at Symphony Space.


Fran Co-Founded Manhattan Theatre Source in 1998, a downtown theater still running today in the West Village, where she served as Founding Artistic Producing Director and currently sits on the Advisory Board. In 2002 Fran founded Made to Move, Inc and through it launched The Biography Project, a series that created and produced the stories of significant performing artists in an effort to better archive and draw awareness to their work. Productions include: Isadora . . .No Apologies, and In Search of a Goddess co-written by Kirmser, “ingeniously told”, -New York Times. In addition, Fran has worked on the development of new theatrical works at Circle in the Square Repertory Theatre, Encompass Music Theater, Williamstown Theater Festival and Musical Theater Works.


On Broadway Kirmser produced the award-winning August Wilson’s Radio Golf and the 2009 Tony Award-Winner for Best Musical Revival, Hair. Continuing her passion for bringing unique and important voices to the stage, Kirmser conceived bringing the passion and emotion of sports stories to Broadway, and together with producing partner Tony Ponturo produced Lombardi, about the Hall of Fame Coach Vince Lombardi, and the soon Magic Bird about Hall of Fame basketball players Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird. These productions brought major sports Leagues, the NFL and the NBA to theater collaboration for the first time.


Fran is a graduate of Skidmore College. Her career enjoyed as a dancer and choreographer were highlighted by past performance projects that include choreography for Only Heaven composer Ricki Ian Gordon and performing the repertory of Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Co., American Dance Machine, Ralph Lemon, Isadora Duncan and Jack Cole www.frankirmser.com.
